2018 E11EVEN PINOT NOIR SRH
The Sta. Rita Hills AVA is constrained by the La Purisima Hills to the north and the Santa Rosa Hills to the south. Substantial maritime influence from the Pacific, combined with the sedimentary soils and patches of limestone makes this AVA the perfect place to grow Pinot Noir. We sourced our 2018 Pinot Noir from the Rio Vista Vineyard, on the far east end of the AVA, a vineyard that we have been working with for years now. Our two favorite Pinot Noir clones there are 2A and 667. Each contributes unique layers to the finished wine. 2A represents the front palate notes of the wine: bright zesty flavors like wild rhubarb and tangy bing cherry. More sumptuous and rich, 667 comes through in the mid-palate and finish, showing off robust flavors like cherry cola and creamy sarsaparilla. The 2018 growing season was particularly well suited to Pinot Noir. Summer temperatures were moderate with fewer heat spikes than in recent years. The cooler season allowed for longer hangtime, promoting more complex flavor development. However, this vintage required some patience, given that the riper tannins and full flavor evolution took extra time. To complement this structured and opulent Pinot, we aged this vintage in 50% New French oak for 18 months prior to bottling. We also held it back an additional 6 months in bottle prior to release. It is ready for your table, or your next adventure.
